Who We Are and Why We Exist

ANNUAL REPORTS

Our Vision

Full inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of life.

Our Mission

Provide and promote opportunities that empower people with disabilities to achieve their potential.

Values that lead to action

We believe that core values and beliefs are meaningless without action to back them up.  At The League for the Blind & Disabled, when we value something or someone, we will always respond accordingly.

A woman shows her laptop to another woman with Down syndrome

We value and believe people with disabilities, no proof required.

Our response: In all of our interactions, we respect people with disabilities as service consumers instead of patients or clients who need to be “fixed,” “rehabilitated,” or cared for by providers.

Two women look at a computer screen

We value consumer control.

Our response: Consumers provide the direction for the services they receive from The League, constitute the majority of The League’s Board of Directors and staff, and are encouraged to participate in other decision-making bodies that are relevant to their issue.

A man with a prosthetic leg looks at his phone at the gym

We value equal opportunity.

Our response: we work at the individual, community, and systemic levels to promote equal access to the opportunities in society that people with disabilities need to achieve their potential and thrive in our community.

A diverse group of people collaborate on their computers at a conference table

We value diverse thoughts and ideas.

Our response: We actively work to include people from diverse backgrounds and cultures in our board, staff, and consumer service population in order to have access to the widest possible range of thoughts and ideas.  We advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in our community.

A woman in a wheelchair and a man in a chair have a conversation next to a window

We value the community.

Our response: We share our knowledge, expertise and physical facilities with others for the betterment of the community.  Through our systems advocacy work, we believe it fosters a better community for all.

We value quality.

Our response: We hold ourselves accountable for providing quality programs and services, managing our resources in a fiscally responsible manner, and reflecting this committment to quality in action and appearance.
